(TV DINER) - An old place with a new name had us buzzing in Hartford, Connecticut, so we decided to head on down to give J Restaurant Bar a nibble! We've heard the pizza's great, but decided to put some other menu selections to the test!

Located in Midtown Hartford, J's is an old face with a new name. Formerly Pizza Plus, this well known location has recently gone from casual to upscale both in décor and cuisine. The menu continues to feature some laid back classics like pizzas, wraps and pastas, but now includes some more elegant choices.

First, we tried the Shrimp Cocktail and were off to a great start. These four, large, crisp shrimp were complimented by a surprisingly fiery cocktail sauce. The Crab Cakes were equally luscious. Loaded with crab, served piping hot, they were drizzled with a very interesting sweet cream sauce.

The Veal Marsala was another great choice. Large tender chicken pieces, moist enough to melt in your mouth were served in a rich mushroom sauce over penne.

The Gran Marnier Salmon was perfectly cooked and topped with a thick, rich glaze with mandarin orange slices, all served over tender spinach and mushrooms.

The Mocha Fudge Cake was divine. Small but mighty, this dessert was a chocolate lovers dream. The dark, rich texture was perfectly satisfying. The Cheesecake was equally fantastic. Rich and creamy, enhanced only by a single perfect strawberry, we loved this one.

Service was excellent at Js. Our server was only working his second day, but was able to describe menu items in detail and was friendly and courteous. Apps averaged $10, entrees $20 and desserts around $7. A great value for good-sized portions of delicious, well presented food.
