(TV Diner) - Plainville,MA

American and Mediterranean cuisine is the theme at Pan City Grill in Plainville. This family favorite serves up home cooked meals for lunch and dinner. We hear the atmosphere is friendly and fun, so we went to check it out.

With a posh-looking bar, Pan City Grille in Plainville, Massachusetts features trendy decor and a diverse menu featuring several Mediterranean-inspired items. But did our visit to this southeastern Massachusetts up-and-comer "pan" out well?

We started with the rich platter filled with Middle Eastern favorites. It was a feast for the eyes and our welcoming stomachs. From kafta - also known as Middle Eastern meatballs - to an amazing home-made tabouli, this culinary trip was a road well worth traveling.

Next up a thin crust spinach pizza would have benefited from a couple more minutes on the grill; but other than that small misstep, this tasty starter was another winner.

The lamb kebabs, although splendidly seasoned and marvelously marinated, were a bit tough. And the side of creamy risotto was too heavy in Parmesan cheese, almost silencing the flavor of the lamb.

Our spirits were lifted, though, by the Pan City moonshine chicken, marinated in orange juice, sweet lime and finished with a kick of moonshine. Served with fresh garlic mashed potatoes this sweet and sour poultry dish - was a winner!

Desserts at Pan City Grille are anything but ordinary. Served in a mini skillet, the s'mores cheesecake was a brilliant wedge of creamy goodness, blended with marshmallows, graham crackers and topped by hot fudge and whipped cream.

It takes 15 minutes to bake, but the cookies and cream - chocolate chip cookie dough served on a sizzling plater and topped with French vanilla ice cream - was oh so worth the wait.

Our charming and highly competent server added to the pleasant experience, making us feel comfortable and cared for throughout the evening.

Pan City Grille offers outstanding value with appetizers, salads and thin crust pizzas about $8; entrees from $12 to $22 and desserts around $6.

For its broad menu, fine preparation, skilled service and easy-on-the-pocket prices, the family-friendly Pan City Grille will earn the Gold Plate.
