Review: Plaza Azteca (TV Diner) - Located on a busy strip just up from the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester, Plaza Azteca is brand new in town. Rumor has it, with several other restaurants in Virginia, the owners know how to do Mexican authentically. Let’s find out.
The décor is Mex to the max. Lots of exposed wood, sombreros and Aztec paraphernalia abound. The menu features classics such as tacos and burritos but combines some interesting ingredients such as lobster and various seafood items.
We started with the bean dip. Though it sounds a bit boring, this creamy rich bean puree with gooey cheese on top was a hit!
We also tried the coconut shrimp. Though not a typical Mexican staple, Azteca’s were delicious, crisp and sweet.
The Lobster Enchilada was surprisingly delicious. Doused in a heavenly, white cream sauce- there was plenty of tender lobster inside
The Chile Relleno set a new standard for the dish. It was wrapped in tender egg batter and was bursting with smooth, mild cheese. Sides of rice were tender and tasty.
The Flan was good, though not quite as traditional as expected. It was more of a pudding texture and really didn’t require the mounds of whipped cream and cherry topping.
The Xango was naughty but nice. Who wouldn’t love fried cheesecake? Delicious.
Menu items ranged from $1.99-7.50 for apps, 7.00-16.00 for entrees and 3.25 to 5.00 for desserts. We found the value to be great for delicious food in more than generous portions.
Service was excellent. If our waitress didn’t know an answer, she quickly found it and was friendly and fun.
The margaritas are tasty and the bar area cozy, so if there is a wait, which there probably will be, stop there first.
Plaza Azteca earned the Gold Plate for very good dining. Parking is plentiful- the atmosphere fun, so go check them out as soon as you can!
