Review: Tamo Bar

(TV Diner) - We've heard plenty of good things about Aura in Boston's Seaport Hotel but what about Tamo Bar? This restaurant offers mainly a bar bites menu in a cozy setting. Stay tuned to find out more!

Named for the Japanese wood dominant throughout its casual yet upscale setting, Tamo Bar, located in Boston's Seaport Hotel is highlighted by attention-grabbing design, soothing colors and cushy furniture.

We heard this cool waterfront lounge is all the rage for its small, yet diverse menu and exotic martinis, so check it out we did.

We started with the chickpea fries and we have to say that vegetables never tasted so good! Crisp on the outside and creamy delicious on the inside, these rectangles were made even more special by yogurt and barbecue dipping sauces.

We also sampled a smoked bacon, caramelized onion and fontina pizza.

The generous pie was good, but the toppings not warm enough and the crust a bit chewy.

A chopped salad featuring avocado, cucumber, and snow peas in cilantro-lime vinaigrette, sided by three thick slices of rare tuna was fresh and inviting.

And a blend of sirloin and filet made for one mighty fine burger - kudos to the kitchen for some of the best sweet potato fries we have ever dipped into ketchup.

Tamo Bar doesn't offer dessert, but its martini and signature drinks menu is extensive and there are several that would satisfy a sweet tooth. Check out Nix's Mate Cosmo and the Fuzzy Zoeller - we did and we won't lie; they hit the spot!

Service was top-notch at Tamo Bar. We told our gracious server our intentions for a leisurely meal and he paced us accordingly.

Prices are a bit steep, but for a high-end lounge in one of the finest hotels in Boston, not outrageous.

Appetizers come in small and large portions, at $9 and $15 respectively; pizzas are $15; raw offerings run from $12 to $16; salads are $12 with an additional charge if topped with chicken, tuna, shrimp or steak; and sandwiches run the range from a $12 grilled cheese to a $23 lobster roll.

For its swanky atmosphere, first-rate fare and amiable service, Tamo Bar will earn the Gold Plate.
