Review: Trio

(TV Diner) - Dine al-fresco and enjoy the fabulous views of Narragansett Bay at Trio Restaurant. Talented Chef Maria Evans whips up delicious European inspired seafood dishes and homemade pastas that we put to the test!

Quick! Before this summer flies by, get yourself down to Narragansett, Rhode Island, which now has a very hot restaurant scene with lots of cool places to check out.

Trio is brand new, and already it's a big hit with the locals as well as the summer tourists. Reservations are STRONGLY recommended.

This is one handsome seaside restaurant with an open kitchen, a cool dark interior, and an outdoor patio with an ocean view where the beautiful people tend to hang out.

That's the perfect spot to sip on a Mojito or two! And with that Mojito, you just might want to try some of the terrific appetizers. The Trio Chowder is a lightly creamed ocean broth flavored with chorizo, native clams, roasted corn and potatoes. The Crab Cakes are butter roasted and served with a spicy remoulade. Salads are impeccably fresh.

Whenever possible, the chef at Trio uses local products, and she often goes organic. Not to be missed is the Clams Casino Pizza, dotted with whole belly clams for all you clam lovers out there.

Trio wants to be known for its chops, pasta and seafood. When we were there, we had one of the best steaks we've had in some time --- the Top Sirloin served on top of cheddar smashed potatoes! Oh baby, was that good! And we still can't get over the humungous Georges Bank Scallops (five of them!) that came topped with a pine nut butter and citrus reduction. Very memorable! Save room for dessert, especially Trio's awesome Chocolate Cake flavored with just a hint of raspberry.

Trio gets the Gold Plate for three good reasons: a comfortable setting with an ocean view, attentive service, and perfectly executed food.

Trio has a wide range of menu prices so there's something for everyone. Appetizers are in the $5 to $19 price range.

Entrees run from $12 to $49. Desserts are $7 each. Trio is located at 15 Kingstown Road in Narragansett, Rhode Island. They are open for lunch and dinner every day of the week, at least for the summer. For more information, call 401-792-4333.
