You could not pick a better name for Wildfire in North Providence, Rhode Island, for this is one HOT restaurant! It's especially known for its brick oven pizza and lively bar scene.
If you like meatballs, you just have to order the Brick Oven Meatball appetizer. We're talking about one great big meatball, the mother of all meatballs, weighing in at more than a pound, and just like Mama used to make back in Italy.
The other appetizer not to be missed is the Wings over Tuscany, meaty chicken wings roasted in that brick oven and then tossed in a blend of rosemary, lemon and balsamic honey.
And you also just have to try the Rhode Island Clam Pizza. It's covered with whole and chopped clams, fresh herbs, Asiago (pronounced AH-SEE-AH-GO) cheese and a garlicky scampi sauce.
If you're still hungry, we recommend two entrees that are really on the healthy side --- the Turkey Rustica (pronounced ROOS-TICKA) and the Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon.
The boneless turkey breast is marinated with rosemary, lemon zest and garlic, roasted until tender, and served with whipped potatoes and broccoli rabe. The Norwegian salmon really is cooked and served on a wooden plank, then topped with a creamy cucumber dill sauce.
Since you've had a healthy dinner, you can splurge on dessert --- go for the Four-Layer Chocolate Cake. It's a tall, dark and handsome ending to a great meal!
We loved Wildfire for its cool, unpretentious atmosphere, super-friendly service, and sensational food. Prices here are quite affordable. Appetizers run from $4 to $14; entrees from $9 to $25; desserts are around $7 or less.
Without hesitation, we give this place the Gold Plate.
