Review: Zipango Sushi Bar and Grille(TV Diner) - Inconspicuously nestled into a small storefront on Shrewsbury Street, you will find Zipango Sushi Bar and Grille.
Dark bamboo and white linens, welcome guests into a cozy dining room. All this serves as a backdrop for a creative list of Asian inspired dishes, with an impressive sushi menu.
Our meal began with the flavorful Killer Ko. A king crab maki, roll topped with tender sea scallops and a spicy tobiko mayonnaise.
Our appetizers continued with the remarkable Ishi Yaki - Kobe beef sashimi, which you actually season and sear yourself on a 650 degree rock at your table.
Entrees started with the perfectly cooked and beautifully presented walnut encrusted rack of lamb, topped with honey-garlic rosemary sauce and served with scrumptious, sautéed fresh vegetables. Next up, we were very impressed with the flawlessly seared jumbo scallops, situated atop housemade lobster ravioli, with tasty black truffle butter.
For dessert we tried the oozy warm chocolate lava cake that came with a generous portion of wicked good ice vanilla cream and for our second dessert we tried, the delicious chocolate and banana spring roll accompanied with that same creamy vanilla ice cream! YUM!!!
Our server was polite and seemed knowledgeable, but gave us dusty water glasses and wasn't great about refilling them.
Appetizers range from $6-$19, entrees from $15-$34, and desserts are all $9.
While definitely not a cheap night out, the artistically presented creative food makes Zipango worth a trip.
Overall, Zipango earns a Gold Plate!
