TV Diner Review: Margarita's

Stepping into the new Margaritas in Exeter, New Hampshire was like walking into Old Mexico. The redolence of sizzling frajitas and the music of a maracas band permeated a colorful dining area with artwork and hand carved furniture from Mexico.

We felt like we were in Margaritaville, so we started with the perfect Heavens to Mergatroid grape Margarita as we crunched into homemade warmed tortilla chips and bold tasty salsa to await our first official appetizer. The Avocado Jack Crisp was like a Mexican pizza with a thin crunchy crust topped with diced avocado and salsa crisped to perfection under robust jack cheese. Next, the Margarita's Sunburst Salad with chicken looked like Southwestern art with grilled vegetables fanning from a spiraled avocado center. Drizzled with tequila lime dressing, this appetizer was impressive in taste and presentation.

The Burrito Supreme was bulging with seasoned chicken and refritos in a flour tortilla that was loaded with cheese and a red chile sauce---seriously spicy and delicious. The second entrée of the Quesadilla Vegetariana collected mild green chiles and a blend of cheeses all folded and baked into a flour tortilla---a good and hearty dish.

Desserts were different with a flan that was a firm slice of custard on a caramelized crisp. Tasty but a lacking a bit in flavor. The fried ice cream however was better with its nut and crunch coating and chocolate syrup over a ball of solid vanilla ice cream.
Service was somewhat slow, but our waitress was friendly and informative.

Prices were variable, but good for the quantity of food with appetizers ranging from $5 to $12, entrees $10 to $18 and desserts averaging $5. This Margaritas is part of an eighteen store private chain with a goal of "bringing Guadalajara" to four New England states. The traditional music, handcrafted décor and exotic Mexican art and pottery make the restaurant a fun place to visit-especially each month on the night of the full moon when they hold a fiesta.
