TV Diner review: Green Tea II(NECN) - Green Tea II restaurant, somewhat hidden off of Rt. 9 in Framingham, is a true diamond in the rough! The stark atmosphere and empty fish tanks gave a somewhat strange first impression. But we quickly received a warm greeting from the owner and staff and were led to our table.
We started off with the Pupu Platter for Two , and were impressed to find everything very fresh and a step above your "typical" Chinese Pupu Platter. The Steak Teriyaki was tender, the crispy Chicken Wings were a perfect golden brown and the Crab Rangoon had a nice contrast between its crunchy exterior and warm crab dotted cream cheese filling.
From the extensive list of entrees we chose the Beef and Scallion Hot Pot. Fresh pieces of ginger and garlic mixed with tender steak and scallions , made for a clean, fresh dish , that allowed all the ingredients to shine.
Next up was Peking Duck, prepared table side. Our waiter expertly wrapped the duck with just the right amount of hoisin sauce in a warm, soft pancake. The duck meat was juicy and the skin perfectly crispy.
Lastly, our curiosity led us to try something from the 'herbal menu. The Steamed Chicken Wrapped in Lotus Leaf, arrived in a large bamboo steamer. The waiter unveiled an aromatic chicken and mushroom dish wrapped in an enormous lotus leaf. Excellent in both taste and presentation.
From the limited dessert menu we opted for the Lychee and Dragon's Eye Longan. Both are fruits from the same family that grow plentifully on trees in China. Reminiscent of grapes this dessert was a nice, refreshing way to end the meal.
Open everyday for lunch and dinner, Green Tea provided excellent value with apps ranging $3.50-$7.25/ entrees $9-$14. With warm and attentive service and a spotless - although stark - atmosphere the Green Tea II receives the gold plate.
