TV Diner review: Mediza(NECN) - Authentic Mediterranean cuisine right here in Connecticut? Look no farther than Mediza in West Hartford center. The first thing you'll notice is the warm and cozy atmosphere and quaint bar. The menu features a plethora of traditional dishes , from Greek Salad and Shish Kebabs , to more artistic creations like the Moroccan Cigars.
We started with the Mediza Sampler. A taste of each of these Middle Eastern staples from Baba Ganoush, to hommus, to a tangy tahini.. all prepared to perfection and served with a thick pita bread.
The Barakas, or phyllo triangles stuffed with potato, feta and spinach were nicely enhanced with a tangy harissa sauce.
The caramelized Sea Scallops were large, luscious and served atop the most unique grits we've seen yet - green pea, squash and shitake mushroom. Amazing!
The Grilled Ahi Tuna was also beautifully prepared and served with rich, tasty crab mashed potatoes and fresh green beans.
Just when we thought it couldn't get better, out came the baklava. Not your average sickeningly sweet version, this was rod shaped and was bursting -with nuts and not too much honey. Without a doubt , the best we've tried.
The Pumpkin Bread Pudding was warm, comforting and had a distinct and lovely pumpkin flavor. Another masterpiece.
Service was excellent at Mediza. This family run restaurant strives to treat the customer well and all members are hospitable and knowledgeable. Apps averaged $9, entrees $23 and desserts around $7. A truly excellent value for an outstanding meal. Overall, Mediza earns the Platinum Plate. They can be reached at 860-233-3370 and are located at 35B LaSalle Road in West Hartford.
