Peeling Back The Cold

Arctic air surged back into New England today (like you needed me to tell your frozen hands that), but it's not here to stay. Once again, the pattern is switching up, and the very cold air is not a part of it.

As a matter of fact, the forecast in the coming 7-10 days also appears rather bright. Quick-moving, somewhat weak storms will zip by on Thursday and Monday with a few light showers, otherwise it stays dry... not something we want to hear in this years-long drought, but also something that may lift spirits during these shortest days of the year.

First up, is the slow warming in the coming days. Highs will be near freezing - or even a little above - in Southern New England tomorrow. We'll have to wait until Wednesday to see that in Northern New England.

Thursday sees one of those weather systems approach with a few showers - maybe still cold enough for wet snow far to the north. As it passes, it barely pushes the cold back into New England on Friday. It's that fact, combined with the contraction of the arctic air, that sends us into the holiday weekend with 50s in the forecast.

Pains me to say it, but by the looks of the forecast, it's surely a brown Christmas in Southern New England this year.
