With Weather Taking Toll, Ski Business Gets Innovative

At Ski Ward in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, the ski lift is still, the snow maker is off and the grass is visible.

The snow that was left over didn't stand a chance with the late December heat.

So what is a ski resort to do?

"We reset up our summer tubing operation so that the kids over break would have some type of activity to do at our ski area," said operations manager Michael Dozois.

"I think this is the perfect solution when we don't have snow on this mountain," said one tuber.

The snow should come, if Mother Nature cooperates.

"Looks like starting Monday, the temps are going to drop, so Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, we should be in full operation for snow-making," Dozois said. "Two good nights of snow-making, we'll have two or three trails open."

That means the green could replaced with white by the start of the new year.
