Showers and thunderstorms pop up across New England today as an upper-level disturbance and cold front pass overhead. Cold air aloft, combined with strong day-time heating will result in some thunderstorms becoming strong.

The main threat for stronger storms later today lies across western New England where hail and gusty wind gusts may impact the area. Right now, we’re expecting storms to begin to fire around 1 or 2 p.m. across western Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut. As always, if thunder roars, go indoors. High temperatures reach into the mid to upper 70s south and upper 60s to near 70 degrees north. Storms linger across southern New England overnight with some instability still around overhead.

We’re expecting any storms to taper by midnight as the best energy shifts offshore. Lows dip into the low to mid 50s south and near 50 degrees north. Expect a mostly sunny day on Wednesday with scattered showers and storms around. A pleasant late-June day overall! Highs crest into the mid-70s to near 80 degrees.

Surface high pressure slides in across the region Wednesday night, resulting in light winds and comfortable humidity levels. A warm front moves through New England on Thursday bringing clouds and the threat of showers and a few thunderstorms. Warm front will also usher warmer and more humid air into the region.

Highs on Thursday reach into the 80s. Looking ahead to the weekend, warm and stormy weather looks to stick around. On Saturday, showers and thunderstorms develop during the day. Highs reach into the mid-80s south and around 80 degrees to the north.

Those doing any activities outdoors will need to keep an eye to the sky. Muggy and humid conditions persist into Sunday with more showers and thunderstorms across the region as a cold front approaches New England.

High temperatures reach into the 80s south and upper 70s north. All in all, main risk with storms this weekend will be heavy downpours, frequent lightning and gusty winds. Cold front traverses across the region on Monday, triggering a round of showers. Stay tuned to NBC Boston and necn for the latest weather updates.
