June Snow on Mt. Washington Approaches Record

2016 Now 3rd Snowiest June

Observers atop New England’s highest peak, Mt. Washington, say 1.4” of fresh snow fell at the summit Monday night.

Snow in June atop the New Hampshire mountain isn’t uncommon. On average 1.0” of snow falls each year. But so far in 2016 the June total is far above that, reaching 6.9” through the 13th.

That makes this June the 3rd snowiest on record atop Mt. Washington. The all-time snowiest June on record was in 1959 when 8.1” of snow fell. Second places goes to June 1965 with 7.9”.

July is the only month when the average snowfall at the summit of Mt. Washington is 0”.
