Power Restored for Most Maine Customers Following Storms

Most of those without power, more than 11,000 customers, were in Hancock County with about 2,000 in Penobscot County

A series of violent thunderstorms knocked out power to almost 14,000 electric customers in central and eastern Maine, but power has been restored in most areas.

Emera Maine says the number of homes and businesses without power following the Thursday evening storm was down to fewer than 100 on Friday morning, but at its peak had been almost 14,000.

Most of those without power, more than 11,000 customers, were in Hancock County with about 2,000 in Penobscot County.

Mount Desert Island was the hardest hit, but the outages extended well inland to Dedham, Lucerne, Eddington, Brewer and Corinth.

Central Maine Power Co. also reported more than 1,000 outages, but that was down to a few dozen by Friday morning.

The storms also caused some localized flooding.
