Hot and Humid Today, Cooldown for Weekend

An air quality alert is in effect across all of southeastern New England through 11 pm tonight

New highest temperature records were set yesterday across New England. Boston reached 92 degrees, tying the previous record set in 1977.

Worcester reached 88 degrees, breaking the previous record of 87 degrees, set in 1906. Blue Hill tied their previous record of 88 degrees, set in 1974. Providence, RI tied their previous record of 91 degrees, set in 1974. To the north, Concord, NH tied a previous record of 93 degrees, set in 1977. In Manchester, NH, a record maximum temperature of 94 degrees was recorded during the mid-afternoon, knocking the previous record of 86 degrees out set in 1889 of the park.

We’re expecting to break more daytime temperature records today with summer-like heat really building in.

Even with dew point temperatures decreasing slightly throughout the day, it will feel hot and humid as temperatures climb into the mid to upper 90s across the interior. Locations along the coast stay in the upper 70s and low 80s despite a strong southwest flow with proximity to a 50-degree ocean.

An air quality alert is in effect across all of southeastern New England through 11 pm tonight due to ground-level pollution and heat possibly reaching unhealthy levels. It is recommended to limit physical excursion outdoors.

A disturbance moving overhead in the atmosphere may bring showers and thunderstorms to southern New England tonight. Expecting low temperatures near 70 degrees south and 60s north.

A cold front moves across the region tomorrow morning, bringing scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm. Otherwise, another mild day is on tap with highs reaching into the low to mid 80s south and 70s north.

Much cooler air moves in behind the cold frontal passage on Saturday, resulting in a pleasant and seasonable spring day with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s south and mid 60s north. Mostly sunny skies and pleasant temperatures remain on Sunday.

A warm front slides across the region for the start of the work week on Monday ahead of an approaching area of low pressure over the great lakes. This will bring increasing clouds and showers to New England with highs reaching into the upper 60s to low 70s.

We will be in between two weather systems on Tuesday with departing low moving offshore and another system approaching from the great lakes. Expecting partly sunny skies and seasonable highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Cooler and wetter weather moves in for the remainder of the week.
