New highest temperature records were set yesterday across New England. Boston reached 92 degrees, tying the previous record set in 1977.
Worcester reached 88 degrees, breaking the previous record of 87 degrees, set in 1906. Blue Hill tied their previous record of 88 degrees, set in 1974. Providence, RI tied their previous record of 91 degrees, set in 1974. To the north, Concord, NH tied a previous record of 93 degrees, set in 1977. In Manchester, NH, a record maximum temperature of 94 degrees was recorded during the mid-afternoon, knocking the previous record of 86 degrees out set in 1889 of the park.
We’re expecting to break more daytime temperature records today with summer-like heat really building in.
Even with dew point temperatures decreasing slightly throughout the day, it will feel hot and humid as temperatures climb into the mid to upper 90s across the interior. Locations along the coast stay in the upper 70s and low 80s despite a strong southwest flow with proximity to a 50-degree ocean.
An air quality alert is in effect across all of southeastern New England through 11 pm tonight due to ground-level pollution and heat possibly reaching unhealthy levels. It is recommended to limit physical excursion outdoors.
