The work weeks ends just as it started, on a fairly cool and somewhat unsettled note.
A blend of sunshine and clouds will continue to rule on Friday, just as we’ve seen most of the work week. A brief passing sprinkle or light shower is also possible, but the vast majority of the day will stay dry. Highs will remain in the 50s near the coast courtesy of an onshore wind, but we’ll again climb into the 60s farther inland.
The Red Sox return to Fenway Park tonight, and it will stay cool for that game. Wear layers, with first pitch temperatures near 50.
From there we start watching a fairly significant storm working up the coast. It will eventually spread rain and wind into New England, but it’s important to know that there will be some dry hours this weekend.
In fact Saturday morning will dawn dry across New England. During the morning rain will begin spreading into parts of Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. From there, the rain will continue to work northeast. Around Boston showers will arrive later in the afternoon. We have to wait even longer than that for rain to arrive in much of Maine.
The rain will become heavier and steadier Saturday night as the wind off of the water ramps up.
Sunday morning will be the wettest part of Mother’s Day. While it stays dreary, damp, cool, and windy into the afternoon, the precipitation for many will begin to lighten up a bit.

Because of the forecast, Duckling Day and Lilac Sunday in Boston have been cancelled.
Rainfall totals be lowest in parts of northwestern New England, in Vermont, with higher totals along the coast. There most will around 1”, with localized higher amounts if the storm tracks a bit closer to us.
Even on Monday we’ll be dealing with breezy conditions and continued showers.
Finally, by Tuesday, the storm really pulls away and sun returns. We warm up significantly for the middle and end of next week as a new weather pattern arrives.
