Strong Storms Rumble Through Mass.

Heavy rain and strong winds toppled several trees

Strong storms tore through Worcester and Middlesex County in Massachusetts Sunday evening. A tornado warning was issued for both counties.

The Worcester area sustained the brunt of the damage. Widespread tree damage was reported.

Many trees toppled over in the Vernon Hill neighborhood in Worcester. Some roads are impassable because of the damage. Strong winds and heavy rains can be blamed.

People in the area reported many loud booms, snaps and roars. Some said buildings shook during the peak of the storm.

The Worcester Academy also sustained some storm damage.

The National Weather Service will be investigating reports of a possible tornado that touched down in the Pilgirm Ave. area of the city.

Heavy rain is still falling across the state and it will continue overnight.
