Warmer Weather Ahead

Monday will be rather gray as we transition into warmer weather.

A weak front is crossing northern New England with a few mixed rain and snow showers.

In southern New England, sunny skies in the morning give way to midday clouds, with an afternoon shower possible.

A period of steadier snow and rain is likely for Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Some of the mountains may pick up two inches of snow in a quick burst from west to east Monday morning and early in the afternoon.

High temperature will be near 50 to the south, in the 40s north and in the 30s in the higher elevations.

Wind is from the southwest gusting 15 to 20 mph.

There will be a partial clearing overnight with low temperature in the 20s north and 30s south.

Weak high pressure will pass north of New England on Tuesday, allowing for more sunshine than clouds, with a high temperature well into the 50s. In Maine and eastern Massachusetts, there will be a breeze from the north and east, keeping temperatures near 50.

Another front moves to our north on Wednesday, pulling the warmest of the year so far into New England.

High temperature will be well into the 60s, with a few spots in southern New England getting to 70 to 75 degrees.

Here are a few records to beat Wednesday:

Boston - 72 in 2000
Worcester, Massachusetts - 74 in 2000
Windsor Locks, Conn. - 72 in 2000
Warwick, R.I. - 66 in 2002
Manchester, N.H. - 66 in 2002
Mt.Washington, N.H. - 39 in 1998
Burlington, Vt. - 66 in 2002
Portland, Maine - 55 in 2012
Bangor, Maine - 54 in 2012
Caribou, Maine - 47 in 1998

We will be close on many of these records.

Another front comes in on Wednesday night with a chance of a few showers north, remaining mild and dry south.

That front stalls here Thursday with a chance of light rain, high temperature again in the 60s south to 50s north.

Cooler but mostly dry weather is expected for Friday into the beginning of the weekend.

All those heavy rains and mountain snows out west will finally make it to the East Coast by late in the weekend and next week, with a good amount of rain likely here before St. Patrick's Day.

Temperatures are likely to stay above normal through the middle of the month.
