Australians Evacuate as ‘life-threatening' Cyclone Nears

(NECN/Network Ten) - People are getting out of low-lying parts of Queensland, Australia as a powerful storm approaches.

Cyclone Yasi is expected to make landfall later this week as a category four storm.

This is the same area that was hit by disastrous flooding last month.

Military helicopters are evacuating hospital patients as authorities order thousands of people to flee. More than 9,000 people in low-lying and coastal parts of Cairns have been ordered to evacuate their homes as the sea is expected to surge at least 6.5 feet.

Chloe Baker reports.
