BOSTON (AP) - Boston's commissioner of public works is defending the city's snow removal even as she says some workers lack what she calls finesse.
Joanne Massaro told The Boston Globe (http://b.globe.com/Xjyjyc ) that public works crews did a good job cleaning up after the storm that dumped 2 feet or more on Feb. 8 and 9.
She says snow clearance wasn't perfect. But she says what snow removal crews lack in finesse they make up for in endurance and commitment.
Mayor Thomas Menino apologized to residents whose streets were left unplowed. But he and his staff defended the city's response to the storm.
The mayor says Boston's main roads were cleared hours after the storm and most side streets were cleared soon after.
City Councilor Charles Yancey has called for a hearing to examine the response.
