Bostonians Find Ways to Keep Cool During Heat Wave

(NECN: John Monahan, Boston) - The summer's next heat wave has hit New England.

Temperatures rose well into the 90's and humidity contributed to a tough Monday for Bostonians.

"It's a little oppressive," said Meghan Quill, an office worker who was grateful for the air conditioning in her building.

Those working outside were especially vulnerable to the hot weather. Construction and delivery workers had to find ways to keep cool because the heat can be dangerous this time of year.

"It can get to you," said delivery driver Joe McQuaid. "You sweat a lot, the pavement is warm, and it's hot inside the car - almost like an oven."

Nick Mitchell, who works delivering lunches to corporate offices, agreed with McQuaid's assessment.

"It's hot going in, but I guess you just get used to it halfway through the summer," he said.

Some Boston residents made a point to hit some of the city's best areas for cooling off.

Martin Sheehan got a ride from his aunt, Michaela, to a nearby Boston fountain where kids are welcome to play.

"The kids love it," Martin's aunt said. "It gets really hot and you don't always want to go into the ocean."
