Cape Cod Continues to Clean Up After Storm

(NECN: Josh Brogadir, Dennis, Mass.) - When the sun rose on Cape Cod Sunday, it was obvious there was a lot of work to do. Homeowners spent the day shoveling while utility crews worked to get the lights back on for thousands who lost power.

Twenty-two Connecticut Light and Power crews crossed state lines and headed to Brewster, Mass. after answering the call for volunteers to head to the Cape at 9 a.m. Sunday.

"When they called us, they said, 'pack five days worth of clothes,'" said lineman Dan Buchanan. "Whatever it takes."

Heavy snow and strong winds knocked out power to thousands overnight. Some continued waiting Sunday evening for the heat to come back on.

"Blustery, really windy, snow coming down really fast," said Sue Costa. "It was bad. And we lost the power."

Elsewhere on the Cape, they were digging out from over a foot. In Sandwich, the snow blanketed cars and roads, making for some serious cleanup.

Falmouth dodged the worst of the power problems. The Mid-Cape got the brunt. The majority of 37,000 customers without electricity at the peak were in Brewster, Yarmouth and Dennis.
