Central Mass. Cleans Up After Heavy Snow and Rain

(NECN: Katie Daly, Worcester, Mass.) - Heavy snow and rain made for sloppy day around much of Central Massachusetts Wednesday.

The freezing rain that fell on Worcester mid morning made last nights fresh blanket of snow feel more like picking up cinder blocks for Central Massachusetts residents.

Doctor Mark Gaureau says the winter mix is to blame for a busier emergency room at UMass Memorial Medical Center. He says on days like this the hospital usually sees about a dozen patients reporting chest pains after removing heavy snow.

Doctors are urging residents not to over exert themselves. But 77-year-old Larry Beliveau says he isn't concerned, and he plans on spending hours shoveling his house and his neighbor's walk way.

Doctors say even people who feel healthy should use caution and at the very least residents should pace themselves.
