(NECN) - Conn. Gov. Dannel Malloy says a person killed by a fire in Prospect, Conn., is apparently the state's first death related to Hurricane Irene.
The governor says police think the fire was caused by wires knocked down at a house.
Hurricane Irene has been knocking down utility lines across the shoreline as it churned toward the state. Irene is expected to make landfall near Stamford around 11 a.m. as a weak hurricane.
Malloy said over 200,000 customers have already lost power on Sunday.
