Extreme Weather Takes Toll on U.S.

(NECN/CNN) - From a heat wave on the West Coast to flooding in the Midwest, extreme conditions are making headlines.

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has declared a state of emergency after a 120-year-old levee on the Wisconsin River failed Monday. Over 100 homes could be affected by the flood waters, and the river is expected to peak again today.

Temperatures in Los Angeles broke records Monday afternoon, sparking brush fires in the area. Residents saw highs hit 113 degrees, breaking the previous record of 112.
