First Day of Summer Will Be a Scorcher

(NECN: Jennifer Eagan, Boston) - Tessara Mastricola enjoyed some natural air conditioning coming in off the water as she shopped the beach for rocks and shells. Carson Beach in South Boston is a special spot she shares with her father, Michael.

But on Wednesday, the 8-year-old girl will be in school, doing her best to stay out of the heat set to spread over the area.

"It would be pretty hot, my friends wouldn't even be playing that much," Tessara said. Not surprising, since temperatures are expected to rise into the 90s in many spots.

Boston Mayor Tom Menino has issued a heat advisory. The city will have additional medical service trucks on the road for the next couple of days.

NStar also says they are prepared for a spike in energy use as residents in Boston crank up their air conditioning.
