Flooded Route 119 in Littleton, Mass. Reopens

LITTLETON, Mass. (AP) - State transportation officials say Route
119 in Littleton has reopened for the first time since the massive
flooding of last month.

The state road that runs just west of Interstate 495 was closed
when a culvert collapsed about 20 feet under the roadway. The
closure had forced detours for motorists in Littleton and
neighboring Groton.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says a contractor
was hired and crews worked around the clock to install a new
culvert and rebuild the roadway, which reopened late Tuesday
afternoon.

MassDOT spokesman Colin Durrant says the total cost of the
repairs isn't known. The state is expected to seek federal disaster
assistance to pay for damage caused by record rainfall in March.
