(NECN/CNN) - Haiti is bracing for tropical storm Tomas. It's bearing down on the country now, with drenching rain and winds at 100 kilometers per hour.
While Tomas is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, the main threat for Haiti will likely be flooding following the rain.
All day Thursday, Haitian officials urged people living in tent cities to get out.
International peacekeeping troops and aid groups have been working frantically to move people from flimsy tents to shelters that are more secure.
The groups have emergency supplies for thousands of Haitian families in need.
