Heavy Rains Breach Western Maine Dam

PORTER, Maine (AP) - Officials are warning of a flash flood in
southwestern Maine after continuous heavy rains caused a pond dam
to collapse.

Teresa Inman of the Oxford County Emergency Management Agency
said the Colcord Pond dam in Porter let loose Tuesday morning,
sending a torrent of water down two country roads until it reached
Route 25 and covered it with 2 feet of water.

The road has been closed but no evacuations or injuries have been reported.

With the rain still falling, the National Weather Service has
issued flood warnings for the Kennebec River in Skowhegan and the
Presumpscot River in Westbrook.

In York County, emergency management agency Director Bob
Bohlmann says the saturated ground is resulting in some septic
problems and shallow wells becoming contaminated.
