(NECN/CNN) - It's the first time in years that Chicago has shut down its Lake Shore Drive.
Hundreds of motorists were stranded overnight after a series of accidents on the roadway.
The city has received 17 inches of snow, with more still possible. That's Chicago's share of the colossal blizzard that's roaring across a third of the country, from Texas to Maine.
Public schools in Chicago are closed for the first time in 12 years.
