Hurricane Earl May Wreck Cape Vacation Plans This Labor Day

(NECN: John Moroney) - Plans are being made to get folks off Cape Cod, if necessary -- as Hurricane Earl nears.

It's a bit of a complicated plan; it is something that has been put in place over the past couple of years.

Traffic and the Cape -- they seem to go together like summer and Labor Day, but when you throw in a hurricane, that's when things get interesting.

If necessary, ramps to Route 6 will be closed in an effort to control traffic. The Bourne and Sagamore bridges would be the only real ways to get out of town.

People are checking on their boats and listening to reports about the weather.

Beaches along the outer Cape have been closed in recent days due to dangerous rip currents.
