Hurricane Irene Has Bad Timing for Western Massachusetts

(NECN: Kristen Caira, Monson, MA) - The Dufault family is hoping their trusty blue tarp will get the job done in the face of the six to ten inches of predicted rain to fall on Monson during Sunday’s tropical storm. And if you look around the town, they’re not alone. Tarps adorn dozens of roofs that haven’t been fixed yet after a devastating tornado ripped through Monson on June 1st.

The trees look ready to topple. They may have survived a tornado but a good gust from the remnants of Irene may bring them down on homes already under repair. Monson’s fire chief is advising those in temporary housing due to the tornado to get to the local shelter.

Pretty much everything has been shaken here with the exception of the good attitudes of many we spoke to.
