Hurricane Tomas Rakes Western Tip of Haiti

(NECN/CNN) - Hurricane Tomas has raked the western tip of Haiti.

But, despite warnings, many in Haiti are refusing to leave their tents and makeshift homes.

Haiti's civil protection department have urged people living in camps for the 1.3 million Haitians made homeless by the January 12 earthquake to go to the homes of friends and family.

The storm is expected to cross over Haiti's southwestern tip, then swirl through the strait that divides Haiti from Cuba.

The Weather Channel's Jim Cantorie has more from Haiti.
