Mainers Get a Frozen First Day of Spring

(NECN: Marnie MacLean) - Many people in Maine woke up on the first day of spring to more than a foot of new snow.

The Oxford County town of Paris hit the  snow jackpot with a whopping 15 and a half inches. It was more than the forecast was calling for, so the spring storm caught some folks by surprise.

Another day of snowblowing and shoveling is the last thing anyone wanted to deal with. Shikara Nugent, who was looking forward to welcoming spring, said, "We were expecting chirping birds and green and then we got white, I'm sick of white!"

This is the 29th storm of the season in Paris and the snow removal budgets are now officially in the red. One reason why the sign at the town office is encouraging everyone to think Spring.
