Mass. Residents Enjoying First Hot Day of Season

(NECN: Alysha Palumbo, Revere, Mass.) - With families having fun on the beach, kites flying in the skies, and kids back to the ballparks, it truly begins to feel like summer in New England.

And this week Mother Nature has given us a few previews of what’s to come during a spring that has been less than stellar.

"Honestly all this rain, the whole weather we’ve been having for the week, this is a blessing to have," Rawlings Toglan of Revere said.

Nine-year-old Bella Camuso of Everett said, "I don’t like cold, I can’t take cold. Hot, okay much better."

So hundreds of people hit the beach in Revere after work or school to try to cool down or just enjoy the ocean breeze.

"It’s beautiful, we’re going to have a couple days of it, I’m going to enjoy it with the family," Joshua Strangie of East Boston said.

Nicole Diflumeri of Revere said, "It’s gorgeous, I wish it was like this everyday."

The warmer weather is big for local businesses too as shoppers start to head into stores like Beach Sales in Revere to buy that air conditioner that can make home a little more bearable in the summer heat.

"Now things are taking off, it’s getting hot, we know right away, we start getting calls, people are coming in and buying air conditioners," Vice President at Beach Sales Howard Freedman said.

Freedman says when temps in the 80’s and 90’s were forecast earlier this week, he bumped up his AC orders, and plans to get more next week to keep the shelves stocked.

"It’s great, we want to see a heat wave for three or four days in a row, it has to get uncomfortable at night before people – people like to wait until the last minute, it’s a short season around here, but it’s finally here and we’re happy," he said.

And it seems almost everyone is happy with the warmer weather and everything the summer is about to bring.

"The beach is just great, if you’re not here right now in this weather, I don’t know what’s going on with you," Toglan said.
