Massive Downpours Flood Sri Lanka's Roadways

(NECN/SLRC) - Colombo and suburb areas are flooded due to the heavy rains.

Due to the downpour of rain on Sri Lanka's capital, normal life of many were disrupted. A rainfall of 351.4 millimeters was reported from Colombo by 5.30a.m. this morning.

This is the highest downpour of rain reported for 20 years.

Several areas in Colombo still remain highly flooded and thunder showers are expected in the evening according to the Meteorological Department.

Flood relief teams of the Sri Lanka Navy have been deployed in Colombo to assist people affected by the flood. Electricity also has been disrupted as a precautionary measure in Colombo due to flooding of Ceylon Electricity Board Sub Stations.
