New England Prepares for Overnight Storm

(NECN: Nicole Jacobs, Weston, Mass.) - New England is bracing for the first significant weather event on the season.

It's coming from the same weather system already wreaking havoc on Texas and the midwest, though the result in New England is not expected to be as severe.

The storm is expected to begin after midnight, so the roads will be relatively clear for crews to treat them ahead of the morning commute. They will hope to avoid similar woes in Worcester last weekend, where upwards of 70 vehicles slipped, slid and slammed into one another.

Monday morning is expected to be testy, as whatever precipitation falls will continue through rush hour. Cities like Boston have been preparing for a couple days.

"This is a major one, we believe," said Boston Mayor Tom Menino. "So we'll be out doing our work."

Menino reminds residents to take advantage of the MBTA.
