Plum Island, Mass. Home Collapses Into Ocean

(NECN) – Storm system is wreaking havoc on Plum Island, Mass.

The heavy snow is a big problem for most of the region, but powerful winds and heavy rain are a problem along the coastline. High tide was a big concern Friday morning.

A home already shaky on its foundation gave way in Plum Island.

The Connor family at 39 Annapolis Way confirms neighbor’s house has partially washed away. The home is hanging at a 45 degree tilt. The street is closed to the public. Officials are on scene.

The 43 Annapolis Way home slid off its foundation. The house was very vulnerable during high tide. Homeowners were dealing with this very real danger.

Thankfully, no one was inside at the time.

A lot of people from the area say if one house was going to go first, they thought it would be this house. It had a slight collapse in 1996, but they were able to bring it back up on the foundation. But now it has completely slid off.

Things from the house are just spewing out.

Neighbor Kevin Smoyen says it's such a shame.

"These poor people...it's just such a shame."

Smoyen says you can see the refrigerator in the waves.

Jackie Bruno has more from the scene.
