(NECN: Scituate, Mass.) - Many residents and rescue crew are wading through floodwaters in Scituate, Massachusetts.
A state of emergency has been declared in the coastal community, where several seaside homes were flooded overnight Monday and two later caught on fire.
The chairman of the town's board of selectmen, John Danehey, says firefighters rescued occupants of the burning homes by boat. No injuries have been reported.
A shelter was set up at the high school.
National Guardsmen were called in to assist in the evacuations.
