(NECN: Amy Sinclair, Portland, Maine) – By sundown in Portland, Maine, the snow came down heavily, winds increased, and temperatures dropped.
Although it snowed in the state all day, road conditions began to deteriorate as the evening fell.
The Maine Turnpike Authority did a great job of keeping the roads passable all day. They did not report many accidents today.
“I think what’s happened is that people have learned, finally, now, near the end of the season, to deal with weather prudently,” said a spokesman with Maine Turnpike Authority. “Knock on wood, but we had very good fortune today that no one got hurt and very few accidents.”
Snow is expected throughout the evening hours.
