(NECN: Steve Aveson, Springfield, Mass.) – It’s been a year since tornadoes tore through western Massachusetts.
They’ve come a long way in the past year, but they are still rebuilding.
Mayor of Springfield, Mass., Domenic Sarno, has been their cheering on the town with an upbeat spirit.
“We had a great team, team Springfield,” says Sarno.
The Mayor says he’ll never forget being in Springfield the night of the tornadoes because it was so surreal.
“It was unprecedented what happened in Springfield,” says Sarno. “Yet, two good things came: the resiliency of Springfield people and monetary economic development.”
A lot of local businesses have chipped in to make a big difference.
Steve Aveson has more with Mayor Sarno on the progress, first responders, and non profits.
