Swollen Mississippi River Continues to Flow South

(NECN/CNN) - The bloated Mississippi River is continuing to flow towards the Gulf of Mexico, and is causing pain for homes and businesses in its path.

The Mississippi hasn't reached levels like this since the historic floods of 1927. Officials are preparing for the worst.

Louisiana has mobilized 500 National Guard troops and 21 parishes have made emergency declarations in response to the threat. In Mississippi, about 600 people have been forced to leave their homes in the town on Tunica, where the river is inching towards its 48-foot crest.

Holly Firfer has the latest from Tunica, Mississippi.
