Tennessee Residents Deal With Widespread Flooding

(NECN/WMC: Memphis, TN) - Residents of southwest Tennessee are dealing with widespread flooding.

The state highway patrol reports the flooding has prompted the closure of a section of Interstate 40.

Meanwhile, Shelby County tells a local T-V station it's dealing with widespread flooding and a county official is asking residents to stay off the roads if at all possible.

Memphis Police say a number of streets there are impassable and they've received about 30 reports of people stranded in their vehicles or stuck in their homes.

The National Weather Services says between three and five inches of rain fell this morning and predicts up to another three by early afternoon.
