(NECN) - Hurricane Irene has turned into a Category 3 storm as it heads toward the East Coast.
Irene's maximum sustained winds have increased to near 115 mph, and is expected to strengthen during the next day or so.
Meanwhile, evacuations are beginning for tourists on a tiny barrier island off of North Carolina.
