Two Snow Storms in the United States Right Now…and One Is Along the Gulf of Mexico

It's a true testament to the depth and breadth of cold air in place across the Eastern United States this morning when two storms are producing snow - one in the Northern Tier, and the other along the Gulf of Mexico.  This picture was transmitted by Twitter user @JoshuaNoland83 earlier this morning from Alexandria, Louisiana, where 3" of snow was on the ground:

This map of snow reports since midnight Friday morning shows the two swaths of snow in America - with 3.2" in Leesville, Louisiana, the greatest amount so far in the southern system.  Worth noting, with these systems separate, no blockbuster storm will develop, as there is no merger of the northern and southern stream taking place (click to enlarge):
