Where's Spring in Worcester?

(NECN: Katelyn Tivnan) - The calendar says Wednesday marks the start of spring. But outside, Mother Nature is telling a different story.

"We like the snow, so we like it, but for spring we were hoping to see more green," said Pat Marszlek.

At Green Hill Golf Course in Worcester, Mass., it doesn't get very green thanks to all the snow.

"Oh it's awful, just awful for lack of a better word," Green Hill Head Golf Pro Matthew Moison said.

The quiet course is covered in plenty of snow and ice. Moison says it's a far stretch from the same time last year.

"We're ready for golf season. Last year we were in high gear, 75 degrees, people in shorts," he recalled.

The course was in full swing, even before the first official day of spring last year, making for plenty of happy golfers, eager to shed their shovels for clubs.

This year, those same golfers are unhappy to be frozen out of their sport.

"They call they come in they're touching the equipment they're ready to go they're just waiting," Moison said.

Pat and Walter Marszlek live nearby Green Hill. They say they don't remember needing gloves and scarves last March.

"Oh it was nice, we were golfing actually," Walter said.

"It was pretty all green, but couldn't walk the course because golfers were out, it's different this year," Pat said.

Despite the frozen landscape, Moison says golfers are optimistic they will be booking their tee times soon enough.

"The weather has changed, we're opening earlier and earlier each year, but this year is a setback, but it will melt and the golfers are getting ready and eager and will be out in full force soon," Moison said.
