'Saturday Night Live': Don Cheadle Hosts, Rocker Gary Clark Jr Performs

After yet another week filled with political drama, presidential soundbites and general unrest, 'Saturday Night Live' had a fresh batch of big headlines to work with

The cold open on 'Saturday Night Live' this week saw the return of Alec Baldwin as President Donald Trump, who presented a parodied version of Trump’s dubious declaration of emergency in order to fund a southern border wall.

Mirroring Trump’s rhetoric, Baldwin said the simplicity of the wall was indicative of its effectiveness. “Wall works. Wall make safe. You don’t have to be smart to understand that, and in fact, it’s even easier to understand if you’re not that smart.”

Baldwin abrasively answered questions from reporters on a variety of issues including China, illegal immigration and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, who he called “a very cool, misunderstood guy.”

Don Cheadle hosted the show, using his monologue to talk about his fame and how he handles fans. The ‘Avengers’ actor spoke of his many roles and how he can judge what a fan knows him from purely on facial expression.

Cheadle, a masterful entertainer who has spent over 30 years in show business, played his audience well when he said he loved fans from New York City due to how direct they are.

But cast member Leslie Jones decided to illustrate this perfectly, crashing Cheadle’s monologue to ask for a picture with him - and for him to take a picture of her.

On ‘Weekend Update,’ Colin Jost brings on Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, played by Kate McKinnon and Alex Moffat, to discuss President Trump settling for far less money than he had hoped to build his border wall with.

Pelosi and Schumer claimed they had no reason to gloat or be happy, but made sure to lay down some heavy sarcasm when it came to their dealing with the President.

“He’s a very tough negotiator” Moffat’s Schumer crooned with a smile.

The musical guest was Texas guitarist Gary Clark Jr., who gave a performance of his song ‘This Land’. The song is the title track from his latest project, which drops February 22.
