Tyra Banks Graces Cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 22 Years After Historic Shoot

This marks the third SI Swimsuit cover for Banks, who came out of modeling retirement specifically for this shoot

Tyra Banks must be hiding a time machine in her closet.

The supermodel once again graces the swimsuit cover of Sports Illustrated magazine, 22 years after becoming the first black woman to grace the cover of the magazine alone in 1997.

“My first one was 23 years ago, how crazy is that,” Banks said on "Good Morning America" where she revealed her new cover. “I’m like damn — I’m 45 dog!”

Banks is one of three women gracing the cover of the iconic swimsuit issue. The others include Alex Morgan, US National Women's Soccer team star and Olympic gold medalist; and Camille Kostek, 2018 SI Swimsuit Model Search winner and SI Swimsuit Rookie this year.

This marks the third SI Swimsuit cover for Banks, who came out of modeling retirement specifically for this shoot.

"The three women that make up the covers of the 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue represent the brand in the most powerful way possible. While each individual woman is so unique, they come together cohesively to tell a spectacular story," said SI Swimsuit Editor, MJ Day. "Since Tyra's first cover in 1996, she's transformed herself into nothing less than a mogul, a cultural force and a supernova of inspiration and empowerment. She's kind of the Swimsuit Issue ethos come to life, everything we know this franchise can be.

The SI Swimsuit hits newsstands on Wednesday, May 8.
