Rhode Island Girl Becomes World Minecraft Champion

Thirteen-year-old Catherine Brunzos of Providence and her teammates won the Minecraft Hunger Games tournament, defeating 94 other teams around the world.

After a hard-fought tournament with an epic name, a young Rhode Island gamer has been named world champion of Minecraft.

Thirteen-year-old Catherine Brunzos of Providence was declared the worldwide winner of the Minecraft Hunger Games, Providence Community Library announced.

Brunzos, username "Catybrun," 12-year-old Messiah LaFortune and 12-year-old Elijah Caldwell represented the Providence Community Library, pitting their skills against, and topping, 94 other teams from around the world.

Bruznos and LaFortune hail from the library's Rochambeau branch while Caldwell comes from the Washington Park branch.

The Minecraft Hunger Games took two days. It is connected to "International Games Day @ Your Library," which took place Saturday.
